2015: A Year in Review

Happy early New Year! As December winds to a close, we wanted to take a couple of minutes and talk about a few highlights from 2015 at TracFone.

1. Dress for Success

For the first time ever, we teamed up with women’s professional development group Dress for Success for a program called Success is Calling, helping women to nail that first important professional hurdle: the phone interview.

2. BYOP

2015 marked the year we cranked up the speed at TracFone. This summer we saw the introduction of the Bring Your Own Phone program for 4G LTE smartphones, allowing you to bring your own compatible phone to TracFone so you could lower your bill but still have access to one of America’s largest and most dependable networks.

3. Susan G. Komen partnership

It was truly an honor to partner with one of America’s largest breast cancer charities, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, during the month of October. Working with Dollar General, we donated a portion of the sales of one of their pink handsets to the foundation as they continued the fight.

4. Smartphone Only Plans

Just when you thought the price of our monthly plans couldn’t get any more reasonable, the Smartphone Only Plans were introduced. These no-contract 90-day plans give you tons of talk, text and data starting at $35. We know a thing or two about helping you save money when it comes to your mobile phone, but it was taken to a whole other level in 2015.

5. Engaging Moments in Social Media

We had a lot of fun with you this year on social media, from GIFs to fun Trivia posts. Looking forward, we have a lot planned for 2016, so keep your eye on the TracFone blog throughout the year for the latest and greatest from TracFone! Happy New Year!

Do the Holidays For Less

With the holidays right around the corner it’s often easy to get carried away and spend a little too much. Your heart is in the right place, but your bank account might be hurting. Believe it or not, it’s easy to do the holidays for less. Here are a couple of tips that will keep you on your wallet’s “Nice” list.

1. Never Stop Shopping

You probably say it to yourself standing in long department store lines every year, “I should have started shopping earlier.” But with all the holiday hustle and bustle, it’s difficult to get your shopping done. So next year, try something that might sound weird: never stop shopping. See something in March for Mom? Buy it and put it in your closet. There’s a sale at the hardware store in June? Grab what you think Dad might want. If you spread out your shopping over a year, it will be easy to manage in December and you can take advantage of sales all year long.

2. Holiday Gift Exchange

When it comes to family, it can often be a strain to get everyone their own present - particularly if you’re part of a big family. So this year, draw names out of a hat and have each person get only one other person a gift. That way you can put some real thought into it and give them the perfect gift – not to mention, it costs less than getting several gifts.

3. Make it a family affair

Ask family members to help out with the cooking and bring a side or a dessert to help offset the cost and make it easier on those who are working to the bone. If someone brings potatoes, another the rolls, another the green bean casserole and another the sweet potatoes, it will take a ton of pressure off both the hard working chefs in your kitchen and your holiday budget.

Have a few more suggestions about ways to do the holidays on the cheap? Let us know on the TracFone Facebook and Twitter pages.

Family fun during the holidays

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and that usually means it’s time for the three F’s: food, football, and family. This is the time of year to be thankful for the people we have in our lives and the time we get to spend with them. Here are a few suggestions from TracFone of traditions to start this year so you can connect better.

Holiday games
This year, bring a few board games that are great for groups to gather the big family together. Before dinner (or before the post-dinner nap), gather everyone and have a little fun in preparation for the big feast. Try to play a game that requires teamwork. You’ll probably learn something new about someone you’ve known your whole life.

Recipe exchange
Your aunt Carol’s famous cheesy potatoes... Grandma’s perfect pumpkin pie... And how does your brother Jay get the turkey to stay so juicy? This is the perfect time to get an inside look at how your favorite Thanksgiving dishes are made. So lend a hand in the kitchen or offer to exchange recipes. We’re sure you have a few delicious tricks up your sleeve…

Get out and about
Being cooped up inside watching football has become a holiday tradition, but who says the guys on TV get to have all the fun? Head outside and get a little fresh air this year. Get a game of two-hand touch going or just throw the football around. Make sure to capture all your memories from this holiday on your TracFone! The important part is to make sure you’re having a good time with your family and making a stronger connection.

Just don’t forget to share some of your Thanksgiving traditions with us on the TracFone Facebook and Twitter pages!

Become Fluent in Emoji

Texting has become about more than just using words and acronyms these days. What happens when you’re trying to express an emotion but can’t really get the right words? What if you’re trying to say something simply? What if you want to respond in a playful way? Enter: emojis.

Emojis are small pictures, sent by text and are all the rage. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you become fluent in this new picto-language.

1. Keep it simple

When it comes to emojis, getting your point across is easy if you don’t overthink it. If you’re trying to say something like, “I will pick up a pizza and be home at 7,” you don’t need an emoji for each word. To get the point across, just use something simple like :

2. Use them unexpectedly

If you’re having a text conversation with your son or daughter answer them using emojis.

For example, if they want to stay out past their curfew, send them these:

If they got an A on their algebra exam, send these:

If they ask for your infamous candied yams recipe, send these:

They will be floored.

3. Have fun!

Emojis are supposed to be fun so use them in interesting and creative ways. You can have an entire conversation with emojis. Or you can just pepper them in when you’d like. But now you know how to read them and most importantly you can enjoy them with your family.

Having particularly good emoji conversations? Feel free to share them with us on the TracFone Facebook and Twitter pages.

Do Halloween for Less

The leaves are beginning to change and the air is getting brisk. That can only mean one thing: Halloween is right around the corner. But between the sweet treats and costumes, this holiday can get expensive.

In the interest of wanting to help you #DoEverythingForLess, TracFone has a few suggestions of how you can celebrate Halloween that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. But feel free to have a few of those lying around on October 31st.

1.  Make your decorations at home

There are some simple ways to transform typical household items into spooky, fun decorations. Store-bought decorations are typically expensive, so why spend all that money when the decorations might only be up for a couple weeks. Plus, it could be a fun weekend project for you and your family and friends. For example, you could cut open an empty milk jug, draw a scary face on it and place a light inside to brighten up this eerie holiday.

2.  Handmade Halloween costumes

Buying a readymade costume from a store can be scary for your wallet. But making something yourself allows you to be creative and enjoy a feeling of accomplishment when it’s done. Thrift stores are great places to get the main pieces of your costumes. And don’t be afraid of some simple sewing as well. It just needs to make it through the night. Use your imagination!

3.  A spooktacular party

Just because you want to save a little money doesn’t mean you can’t throw a great Halloween celebration. Have a spooktacular party using easy-to-make homemade costumes, decorations and games! Of course, you should show off all your homemade Halloween decorations.

You can also play some classic Halloween games like bobbing for apples and pin the hat on the witch, or make all your treats yourself instead of buying prepackaged candy and sodas.

Have any tips of your own? Want to show off some of your Halloween costumes and decorations? Share them on the TracFone Facebook and Twitter pages!

Support Cancer Research with TracFone

This month you might see a little bit more pink than usual. Pink ribbons are the international symbol of breast cancer awareness and October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Whether it’s a friend or a family member, cancer has touched each of our lives. Supporters wear pink ribbons, pink shirts and just about anything else pink to show support to those who are fighting the disease.

TracFone is excited to play their part as well. To help raise awareness and research funds, we are partnering with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for a special offer this month. TracFone will be donating 10% of the retail price of the specially-marked pink LG306G sales to the foundation, available exclusively at Dollar General for $9.

Founded in 1982 the Susan G. Komen Foundation is one of the largest breast cancer organizations in the U.S. By helping fund them, you will be contributing to the breast cancer awareness cause in several ways. Their outreach has helped lead to 70% of women over 40 having regular mammograms. This form of early detection has lead to a 34% decline in breast cancer mortality since 1990. Their work has also resulted in the government devoting $850 million in annual research, up from $30 million in 1982. All of their hard work over the last few decades means there are 3 million more breast cancer survivors in the U.S.

But the fight isn’t over. Stop by your local Dollar General or check them out online and pick up the special pink LG306G from TracFone to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the effort to find a cure .

Celebrate Grandparents Day with TracFone

No matter what we call our grandparents – Grandma and Grandpa, Nana and Papa or Meemaw and Bobo – they will always have a special place in our hearts. They love to bring the family together; whether it’s sharing a home-cooked meal, a once-forgotten story, or dropping the occasional inside joke (thanks, Grandpa!). But most of all, you always know that whatever life throws your way, grandma and grandpa will always love and support you.

To bring appreciation for this unconditional love, TracFone is celebrating Grandparents Day early. For the next two weeks, TracFone is providing free #LoveIsGrand eCards on Facebook, which you can share with your grandparents to celebrate this special holiday! And, when you share the eCards or comment on the post, you’ll be entered for a chance to win one of four Alcatel OneTouch Pop ICON prize packs and a $1,000 Grand Prize!

The Alcatel OneTouch Pop ICON is the perfect smartphone for your grandparents. With its large five-inch touchscreen and easy to navigate menu, the OneTouch Pop ICON is the ideal device for those looking to make their first switch to a smartphone. And for all those years your grandparents spent spoiling you, it makes a great Grandparents Day gift to help you return the favor.

Speaking of spoiling, we’ve compiled a quick list of our favorite ways our grandparents spoiled us as a kid:

 1.      Staying Up Past Bedtime

When Mommy and Daddy say go to bed, there’s no choice but to crawl under the covers. When you’re having fun during sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, there’s no such thing as bedtime!

2.      Cards for Every Occasion

Whether it’s your birthday, Valentine’s Day, the first day of school, or even the day you get your driver’s license, Grandma and Grandpa always find a reason to send their love.

3.      Unforgettable Trips

It doesn’t matter if you’re going across the country or just across town, no one knows how to plan a memorable vacation like Grandma and Grandpa!

What are your favorite ways your grandparents spoiled you? Share them with us during our Twitter Party on September 9 at 9pm ET! Follow @TracFoneCalls, @MacaroniKid & #LoveIsGrand to join in on the fun! There’ll be chances to win prizes, too!

So whether you enjoy word games, puzzles, or arcade classics, you’ll be able to find the perfect game for every member of your family. Do Everything for Less: Back-to-School Shopping

Summer is almost over, so it’s just about time to pack up the kids’ pool toys and get them ready to hit the books. With every new school year comes a new school supply shopping list, which seems to get longer each year. To help you Do Everything For Less®, we’re sharing our favorite back-to-school shopping tips so you can keep your wallet stuffed as you work to stuff those backpacks!

Shop At Home First
When starting the back-to-school process, take a look around the house to see if you can start checking items off your list before you even head to the store. You’d be amazed at how many school supplies you already own. Using last year’s scissors, rulers, folders, pencil cases and more will instantly lighten the load, allowing you to spend less and save more.

Compare Prices
After you’ve created a stockpile from your home supplies, be sure to check and compare prices from your local stores. You can easily find the latest offers in your local newspaper and determine who has the best deals around. Or, you can use your TracFone Android™ smartphone to download and use one of many free price comparison apps on Google Play (hyperlink to play.google.com). Just like your kids learn in school, “knowledge is power,” and knowing the best deals will give you the power to save!

Shop at Multiple Stores
Certain stores may have better deals for certain items. Your local department store may have great deals on pens and pencils, while your local discount store has amazing sales on notebooks and paper. Why not take advantage of both? Shopping at multiple stores allows you to get the best offer around, always. And all of these savings will add up—it’s simple grade school math.

Save Money with TracFone
With a new school year comes new bus routes, new play-date friends, and new afterschool activities. It can be tough to keep track of it all, but fortunately, TracFone is here to help with the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle edition of the LG Sunrise Android™ smartphone. Now avalaible for $29.99 at Target.

This kid-friendly smartphone provides parents with peace of mind and has the fun features kids want. Not only will you be able to stay connected with your child through TracFone’s dependable nationwide coverage, but this incredible device comes with one FREE year of the NQ Family Guardian app. This award-winning app allows parents to monitor their child’s cellphone usage, set up web and app filters, and even set up time limitations. That way you can make sure your precious one stays on the Honor Roll by preventing them from playing with their phone during class.

Speaking of playing, the TMNT edition LG Sunrise Android™ smartphone comes with exclusive access to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode and games. All of which should only be played after homework is finished of course…

Be patient
Our final tip is to be patient when school supplies shopping. Remember, it’s a school year, not a school day. You don’t have to have every item purchased when the first bell rings. Feel free to hold off on buying items such as clothes until later in the year when the sales are even bigger. Holding off on these purchases will help you save in the long run and will show your smart student that you're a smart shopper!

4G LTE Arrives at TracFone

If you have the need for speed, then you’ll love the latest and greatest service from TracFone Wireless! Now, through our new BYOP® (Bring Your Own Phone) program, you can easily bring your 4G LTE smartphone* over to TracFone Wireless and enjoy one of the most affordable plans in America on one of the two largest and most dependable networks.

Bringing your own 4G LTE smartphone to TracFone is as easy as 1–2–3!

1. Check if it’s compatible – Head to TracFone BYOP.com and follow the instructions to see if your phone works with our BYOP program.
2. Buy a SIM kit & airtime card – If your device is compatible, simply purchase a SIM kit and choose the airtime service plan that is right for you.
3. Activate Your Phone – Complete the BYOP process by registering your device and enjoy TracFone’s 4G LTE service!

With this technology at your fingertips, you’ll be able to experience 4G LTE service so fast, your thumbs will have a hard time keeping up. But be careful, when you have 4G LTE on your smartphone, you’ll want other things in your life to be just as fast! Here are our top three things we wish had 4G LTE speeds:

1. Washing Machines

Doing laundry can definitely be a hassle. Not only is it a multi-step process, but you can also end up waiting hours to finish just one load. Imagine if there was a 4G LTE setting on the washer and dryer. You could clean all of your clothes in a matter of minutes! Now if only there were a machine that could fold the clothes for you…

2. Amusement Park Lines

For all of the thrill seekers, there is nothing more fulfilling than a roaring rollercoaster. With their twists and turns, dips and dives, and loop-de-loops, they are sure to give you a rush of adrenaline and an ear-to-ear smile. However, waiting in line for 45 minutes just to hop on a 90-second ride can definitely take the “Amusement” out of Amusement Park. But, if the line was powered by 4G LTE, it might even be more fun than the rollercoaster itself!

3. Pizza Deliveries
Nothing satisfies hunger quite like a piping hot pizza! Crunchy crust, gooey cheese, and tasty toppings come together beautifully to create a food so delicious, it’s a wonder why we eat anything else. But sometimes when it takes the delivery guy more than an hour to supply the supreme snack, you start to question whether the order was worth it. Now if only his car was powered by 4G LTE, you’d get your pizza faster than you can say “stuffed crust!”

For more information about TracFone’s BYOP program or to make the switch today to verify your compatibility, please visit: TracFoneBYOP.com

*requires a 4G LTE compatible or unlocked smartphone

TracFone Perks: Unlimited Carryover®

Nobody likes to be wasteful. Whether it’s food, clothing or even packaging, throwing things away is more than just tossing them in the trash, it’s throwing money away too. At TracFone, we want to help you Do Everything For Less.® From saving on your wireless bill to cutting down the waste, we are here to help you get the most out of what you pay for.

For instance, with TracFone's Unlimited Carryover®*, you get to keep your unused minutes, texts and data, so you’ll never have to worry about losing what you’ve already purchased. In fact, TracFone is the only pre-paid wireless company to offer that service. We truly believe that nothing should ever go to waste!

Reusing and recycling household items are a great way to reduce waste, too. We’ve compiled a few simple projects below to help you get more out of your purchases. Plus, these homemade 'Carryovers' can double as fun projects for the whole family!

From Milk Carton to Bird Feeder
A great way to repurpose an old milk carton is to transform it into a bird feeder. All you need to do is simply wash out the carton, cut a bird sized hole in the base, and hang it from your favorite tree. Once you add the seeds, beautiful birds will start flying by!

From Mason Jar to Flower Vase
When you’re finished at the grocery store, you’ll notice that in addition to bringing home the bacon, you’re also bringing home the jars. But what do you do with those glass canisters after you’ve gobbled up two dozen pickles or spread the last morsels of your favorite fruity jam? Instead of tossing them in the trash, why not rinse them out and convert them into stylish vases. Simply add water and flowers, and you can include a beautiful floral touch to any room!

From Food Jar to Piggy Bank
With all of the money you’ll be saving with TracFone, you’ll need a place to keep it. That’s where this homemade 'Carryover' will come in handy. Just wash out an empty jar, slice a hole in the lid  (make sure it is big enough for dollars too) and decorate like a piggy to finish the look. All of the money you save will be great for a rainy day fund. Or use your savings to create more homemade 'Carryovers'!

Have any homemade 'Carryovers' of your own? Share them with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages!

*Service must be active and in use within each six month period.

TracFone & Dress for Success Launch the Success is Calling™ Program

At TracFone, we understand that one phone call can change a life, especially when that call helps you land a job. That’s why we are proud to partner with Dress for Success and introduce the Success is Calling™ program. Launching in June, this program will provide the necessary training and tools to empower disadvantaged women and help them thrive in work and in life.

In addition to donating 20% of all phone sales from Walmart in April to Dress for Success, TracFone Wireless will provide participants in the Success is Calling™ program with phone interview training and phone etiquette tips. Once each participant completes the program, they will be given a new TracFone MaxPatriot with a year of cell phone service to support them as they enter the workforce and jumpstart their careers.

Having a cell phone and demonstrating proper phone etiquette is extremely important in today’s work culture. A recent survey shows that many HR representatives strongly value candidates who are well spoken on phone interviews and judge them more favorably if they are able to demonstrate proper cell phone etiquette. And the benefits go beyond phone interviews—check out our findings here:

Through the Success is Calling™ program and a $525,000 donation, TracFone aims to further the Dress for Success mission of helping disadvantaged women develop the skills and confidence they need to start a successful career.  Together with your help, we can ensure that more women receive that life changing phone call and hear those all-important words, "You got the job!"

TracFone Tips: Phone Photos

Everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words, and with the camera-phone options from TracFone, like the Samsung Galaxy Stardust, you’ll have a lot to say. From snapping selfies to capturing landscapes, mastering the art of phone-ography can take some practice. That’s why we've compiled some useful tips to help you get more out of your mobile photos.

Cleanliness is Key
Picture this: you’re just finishing up a fantastic day at the beach—the waves are calm, the sand is warm, and the sun is setting, painting the sky with a gorgeous blend of orange and violet hues. You reach into your pocket to grab your phone so you can capture this unbelievably serene moment.

Do Everything For Less: Spring Cleaning

Spring has finally sprung! The flowers are starting to bloom, birds are chirping their beautiful melodies and the house needs a good scrub-down. Oh spring cleaning. Nobody likes doing it, but it’s just something that needs to get done. Luckily, we’ve compiled a quick list to ease the pain and help you do spring cleaning for less!

Call in for Back-up
Family and friends make everything better, including spring cleaning! So before you put on a pair of yellow-latex gloves, send out a text message to your family and friends and see if they’ll swing by to lend a helping hand. The more support you get, the less time it will take to scrub down the house. Just don’t be surprised when they ask you to return the favor.

Make a Spring Cleaning Playlist
Once you’ve got your cleaning team in place, set up a 'Spring Cleaning Playlist' full of your favorite, groove-able tunes. You can blast the mp3s on your TracFone Android™ Smartphone and keep team morale high until the job gets done. Plus, with the music going, it will look a little less weird when you are dancing with the vacuum.

Use Old T-Shirts as Cleaning Rags
Spring cleaning is often a big undertaking that requires a lot of wiping, mopping and scrubbing. But instead of buying fancy dish towels that are just going to get ruined doing the job, simply cut up some old t-shirts and wipe-away. Let’s face it, that tuxedo t-shirt needed to be tossed anyway, so you might as well get some use out of it and save money in the process.

Use an Old Toothbrush
Dentists recommend changing your toothbrush every three months, we recommend holding on to them so you can easily clean those hard to reach nooks and crannies. As the old saying goes, “if it’s good enough to clean your mouth, it’s good enough to clean your house.” Old toothbrushes are great for scrubbing out the grime from in between bathroom tiles and from behind the kitchen sink. You’ll feel relieved after you finally remove that hard-to-reach filth, and, since you’ll save some money by not having to buy new cleaning supplies, your toothbrush just found a new way to keep that bright smile going!

Take Before-and-After Pictures
Although it’s a pain to scrub down and organize the entire house, nothing beats the feeling of having a clean, comfortable home. The best way to document your progress is to snap some quick before-and-after photos on your TracFone Android Smartphone. You’ll be able to see the fruits of your hard work and you can upload the photos to your social networks and show off the results to your family and friends. Hey, they might even ask you to swing by their houses to help them tidy up!

4 Ways to Save This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is about celebrating true love, and although some say, “love don’t cost a thing,” this holiday has a knack for burning a hole in our wallets. So in order to keep your heart—and wallet—full of love this February 14th, here are a few tried and true ways to save on Valentine’s Day:

Cook Instead of Going Out to Dinner
Enjoy a romantic meal with your special someone in the comfort of your own home. You can wow your significant other with a new, gourmet recipe, or you can cook the meal together for extra flirtatious fun. Just remember to add your favorite music and a couple of candles to set the Valentine’s Day mood. Best of all, there’s no need to tip the wait staff – unless you want to tip yourself!

Stream a Movie Rather Than Go to the Theater
A great date always has great entertainment! But instead of paying an arm and a leg to see the latest boy-meets-girl flick with all of the other Valentine’s Day daters, how about cozying-up on the couch and streaming the movies you love with the person you love! Make some popcorn, dim the lights, kick back & enjoy the show!

Send "Sweet Nothing" Texts Throughout the Day
Unfortunately, you can't always spend the entire day with the one you love on Valentine's Day. But just because you aren't with your significant other, doesn't mean they aren't on your mind. Show appreciation for your sweetheart by sending them thoughtful texts throughout the day, reminding them how much you love and care for them. As they say, "distance makes the heart grow fonder," and your valentine will be pleased to know that even distance can't keep your love apart.

Make Your Own Greeting Card Instead of Buying One
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Greeting Cards are cliché
It’s better to write something that’s heartfelt and true.

This Valentine’s Day ditch the cliché greeting cards and instead write your loved one a note that comes from the heart. To add extra sentimentality, write it on the back of a favorite picture of the two of you. They will definitely appreciate hearing how much they mean to you, and it will be a gift they will cherish for years to come.

Cupid may be the ultimate wing-man, but with Valentine’s Day savings tips like these, TracFone comes in a close second. With our 90-day no contract plan for only $19.99 and great smartphones at great prices, we help you Do Everything For Less, including Valentine’s Day!
